Dixon partners Google to sub-license rights relating to Android and Google TV

Electronic goods manufacturer Dixon Technologies has entered into an agreement with Google. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) has got sub-licensing rights for making LED TV sets on Android and Google TV platforms. Dixox claims that it is the first contract manufacturer in India to get the sub-licensing rights relating to Android and Google TV.
What is the tie-up with Google about
For those unaware, Android and Google TV are two operating systems developed by Google to power smart TVs, while Google TV is the newer OS, Android TV is comparatively old. In India, presently, most TVs run on Android TV. Other TV operating systems include Samsung Tizen, Amazon FireOS and LG WebOS.

In a statement Dixon said, this will help the company to provide cost-effective smart TVs and further strengthen its market leadership in the LED TV category. These TVs will be made available to all TV brands who are currently importing these devices from other countries, Dixon said in a statement. “This new partnership will enable the company in offering a cost-effective, consistent, high quality and out-of-box experience to our existing customers and potential new brands, which will further strengthen the company’s market leadership in the LED TV category,” the company said.

Dixon Technologies is the largest manufacturer of LED TVs in India with an annual capacity of 6 million units at its plants. The company has been making TVs for Xiaomi, Samsung, Panasonic, TCL, OnePlus and Nokia, among others, in India. Other than TVs, Dixon is also engaged in manufacturing electronic products such as home appliances like washing machines, LED bulbs, LED batteries, mobile phones, CCTV, DVRs etc. It has manufacturing facilities located at Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Dehradun in Uttarakhand and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
