Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro confirmed to be powered by Tensor G2 chipset

Google has announced the dates of its annual hardware event. The tech giant has confirmed that it will launch the all new Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Watch on October 6, 2022. The company initially teased the smartphones at its annual developer conference Google I/O 2022 in May. Along with announcing the launch date, the company has also confirmed that upcoming Pixel smartphones will be powered by the second-generation “Tensor G2” chip.
Google introduced its customised Tensor chipset for the first time last year with the launch of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The recently launched Pixel 6a also has the same chipset. The company has used a 5nm process to develop the chipset and it comes with 8 cores and Mali-G78 MP20 GPU. Google worked with Samsung to improve the CPU performance of its customised chipset.

Coming to Google Tensor G2, the chipset will be seen in the Pixel 7 series. It is expected that the same chipset will power all the three Pixel 7 series smartphones. The company claims that the Tensor G2 chipset will improve the image and video processing abilities in the smartphones. Along with this, the SoC will also offer better security and voice recognition support.
“Google Tensor G2, More power to Pixel. With the next-gen Google Tensor processor, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will bring even more helpful, personalized features to photos, videos, security, and speech recognition,” writes Google on its listing page.
As per various rumours, the Tensor G2 chipset is said to use Samsung’s 4nm LPE process. The chipset is expected to feature 2 Cortex X1, 2 Cortex A78 and 4 Cortex A55 cores.
