Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra may have a 200MP camera, here’s what we know

Samsung’s next top-of-the-line smartphone series, the Galaxy S23, is expected to debut early next year, i.e. 2023. However, the rumours have already started shaping what Samsung‘s next flagship smartphones may look like. Now, a new rumour suggests that Samsung’s next-big smartphone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, would come with a 200MP camera, a rumour which has been doing the rounds of the internet for a while now. A tipster shares some more details this time.
Notable tipster IceUniverse claims the Galaxy S23 Ultra would feature a 200MP ISOCELL sensor and seems quite confident about the claim. The tipster details further; he suggests that the camera would have a sensor size of 0.6µm pixels with an f/1.7 aperture. The Galaxy S21 Ultra features a 108MP camera with a 0.8µm sensor and f/1.8 aperture lens.
The sensor would be slightly smaller than the 48MP sensor of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, but it will also be a bit bigger than most high-end Android smartphones coming out in 2023.
It is still unknown which ISOCELL sensor Samsung would use for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Rumours are rife that it would be an entirely new sensor different from the existing 200MP sensors introduced by Samsung, and the tipster’s claim again corroborates the rumour.
The ISOCELL HP1 and HP3 — are two 200MP sensors, but they do not match the specifics of the sensor rumoured to be used for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The HP1 has a size of 1/1.22-inch with 0.64µm pixels, while the HP3 is a 1/1.4-inch sensor with 0.56µm pixels. So, we can expect the rumoured sensor to be positioned between the two sensors.
The other two cameras in the trio are said to remain the same – a 10MP periscope telephoto and a 10MP ultra-wide camera.
According to some of the previous tweets made by IceUniverse, the Galaxy S23 would not be a major upgrade compared to the Galaxy S22. The two generations are expected to look the same but will be powered by a new high-end Snapdragon chipset, probably Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
